St. Jacobs Dam Sunset
Today I got an email from a friend telling me that the water going over the St. Jacobs Dam was starting to freeze. Our own mini Niagara Falls she said. With that information I planned to go after work to take a few shots. I was curious about where the sun was setting this time of year in relation to the dam so I went to my favorite website, The Photographers Ephemeris to find out. I was in luck! The sun would be setting in line with the falls. All I needed now was a good sunset.
I arrived with time to set up and as the sun went I took shots from several angles. I was not disappointed. This is one of my favorites.
Thanks Marion for the suggestion! I’ll have to keep an eye on this location to see if the frozen falls expands.
Wiarton Winter Sunrise
This is a follow up to my previous post – Sunrise Surprise. While I still had a few minutes to capture the sunrise I scooted down the shore and found this snow covered cedar with a young tree poking through. It provided an interesting foreground for this shot. Colpoy’s Bay was frozen over but not enough to go out on the ice. What a beautiful way to start the day.
Sunrise Surprise
I was in Wiarton Ontario this weekend (about 2 hr’s north of where I live) to take some winter photos. The weather prediction was for overcast skies but I got out early in hopes of at least some good light. To my surprise the clouds opened up at the horizon and allowed for few minutes of a beautiful surprise sunrise. I just got out of the car and was lucky to get this shot before it disappeared.
Later throughout the morning there were a few more times the sun poked through but the rest of the weekend was indeed overcast and actually rainy on Sunday. Despite the weather I think it was a successful weekend and I will share a few more shots in the coming days.
Sunset Tree
A late December Sunset before the snow arrived. I like the way the tree seems to be directing the clouds off to the north.
The Boot & the Bottle
The boot sold his soul for the bottle and this is where they ended up.
Forest Sunset
Although this looks like a late fall shot it was actually taken Dec. 28th. This time last year we had quite a bit more snow! It won’t be long before this is snow covered and when it is I will try to get back and take another shot.
