Watching and Waiting

I am posting two versions of the lighthouse in Southampton that I took this weekend. One realistic and the other more artistic. Do you have a preference?

Watching and Waiting
Not a Ship in Sight.
Ice and Snow,
Fog or Storm.
Ready for the Night

The lighthouse at Southampton Ontario is looking a little lonely these days. Lake Huron is pretty much fully covered by ice. But the lighthouse will sit patiently waiting for spring.

    The photographer in me loves the picture. But I have to admit, I love the Lighthouse Art one more. But both are spectacular!

    • Thanks! I feel the same way – That’s why I posted both.

    • I too prefer the second one, here’s why;

      I’ve personally seen far more realistic shots of lighthouses than those that have been enhanced creatively. So the second shot leads on that regards alone.

      Additionally, and frankly, most of the creatively processed lighthouses I’ve seen aren’t as good as this one. This isn’t just an intersting shot, it conveys an emotion. All of the sense of cold isolation in the first one is also in the second one. The emotion with the extra post-prod filtering effects conveys more than the first image.

  2. Oh my, so cold! I like them both, but I can’t imagine being there (I hate the cold)! On second look, I like the artistic one – it conveys the cold – the very cold!

    • Thanks. Yes it was cold! But it could have been worse. It was not to windy and I was dressed for it.

  3. I like the cool colours and quiet waiting mood of the first image.

  5. Ooh, the artistic one….a sense of wild weather and aloneness

  6. Exactly what suej said. The artistic version seems to have more tumult to the storm.
